Environmental Management We live by the philosophy, “Our earth, Our tomorrow”. We all share the planet, and as such, we are all obligated to protect and preserve it. Lanier’s Environmental Mission Our corporate principles recognise the importance of environmental conservation and regard environmental conservation, sustainability and prevention of pollution as an integral part of our business activities. This commitment is fostered throughout Lanier by integrating environmental activities with our Occupational Health and Safety, Quality Assurance and Corporate Social Responsibility programs.

Our company wide commitment to the environment is realised through:

  • Implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System which identifies environmental impacts of our business, facilitates their reduction and controls our associated processes
  • Setting and managing environmental objectives, targets and action plans at each function of the organisation
  • Continuously reviewing and improving our business processes in line with our environmental objectives and targets whilst ensuring business sustainability
  • Promoting relevant technological innovations internally and to our customers that help reduce adverse environmental impacts
  • Implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System which identifies environmental impacts of our business, facilitates their reduction and controls our associated processes

Environmental management system Lanier has in place an Environmental Management System which facilitates the identification and mitigation of environmental impacts of our business. This system meets the requirements of ISO14001 and has enabled Lanier to implement environment initiatives such as:
  • Recycling of toner bottles and cartridges (see Cartridge take back program)
  • Recycling of end of life machines
  • Recycling of packaging materials such as cardboard and polystyrene
  • Reducing the amount of office paper used
  • Reducing the amount of energy used

In addition the majority of Lanier systems have been awarded the Energy Star. Copiers that have earned the Energy Star “sleep” or power down when not in use, and use 40% less electricity compared to standard models.



Cartridge take back program Lanier, in conjunction with Close the Loop, has implemented a cartridge take back program. The objective of this program is to collect used toner cartridges and bottles from customer sites using specially designated boxes. At no cost to the user the cartridges and toner bottles are then ground down and recycled into a variety of products such as fence posts, rulers and park benches.

End of life machine recycling program To ensure end of life systems do not end up in landfill, Lanier has an end of life machine recycling program in place. In conjunction with a third party organisation all end of life machines are stripped into their various material groups and recycled accordingly.
